How does solving a Rubik's Cube help children?

Solving a cube requires algorithmic thinking and real problem-solving. Our Cube Leaders provide specific exercises that help kids memorize and apply step-by-step procedures — the same study habits they'll use for academic success later. From the kid's point of view, it's just something new, cool, and fun. But they leave with a skill that impresses friends, parents, and teachers — and most importantly, impresses themselves. That kind of win builds self-esteem and confidence in a young, curious mind.

How is CubeTroop so confident anyone can learn?

We teach the official Rubik's layered method, which breaks the cube into three clear stages — first layer, middle layer, final layer. Each student masters one stage before moving to the next, with one-on-one support and custom mnemonics for anyone who needs a different explanation. The cube looks intimidating, but taken layer by layer, learners of all ages can do it.

How many sessions are there, and when?

Sessions run weekly and last 45–60 minutes, with each week targeting one layer of the cube. Most students complete a full solve within a few weeks. Because our Cube Leaders are college students, available days shift each semester — contact us and we'll find a time that works for your group.

What ages do you teach?

We recommend 4th–5th grade, but what we really look for is passionate, engaged learners. We're happy to teach anyone who wants to learn.

How many kids can participate at once?

We keep groups small — each tutor works with a dedicated group of students — so every kid gets hands-on, one-on-one attention and we can adjust instruction in real time. Class capacity depends on how many leaders attend a given session; ask us when booking.

How much does it cost?

Little to nothing. We never charge for teaching — we believe education should be free. To cover expenses, we may ask for a small fee per cube; if that's not possible, we'll teach for free anyway. Donations and grants help us put a cube in every kid's hands.

What does each student get?

Every student receives their own Rubik's Cube to take home, so practice continues between sessions. Milestones along the way earn prizes, and graduates get a certificate of completion.

Are there any prerequisites?

Just one: the passion to learn.

I lost my learning documents — where do I get more?

Everything is posted free on the Learn page, including the official Rubik's solution guide we teach from and the full roadmap on the How to Solve page.

Help! My cube broke. Is it fixable?

Usually, yes. If a piece popped out of its socket, the Cube Maintenance video on the Learn page will walk you through the fix. If plastic actually broke, you may need a replacement piece — contact us and we'll help you figure out what to order.

Where are you located?

We operate across the Richardson, Plano, Frisco, and greater Dallas, TX area — including ongoing sessions at the Richardson Public Library and Crème de la Crème of Plano.
